The Happiness Routine: Begin Your Day on a Positive

It's amazing the effect that 5-10 minutes practicing gratitude and positive thoughts in a morning can have on your entire day. Mornings set the foundation for your day, begin it feeling negative and you can probably guarantee you will carry these feelings through and spend the whole day attracting negative situations and feeling stressed.

Here are five simple tools to do every morning to begin on the right foot:

1) Before jumping straight out of bed, take 5 minutes to feel gratitude. Say thank you for your good nights sleep, for the comfy bed you lay in, for the day ahead. Visualize your day as if you've already lived it and say thank you for everything going perfectly.

2) Try to avoid watching the news or any TV at the start of your day. Instead, listen to a positive playlist full of songs that make you feel good or read a feel-good book, look at happy pictures.

3) Meditation in a morning is a great way to reduce stress, enhance concentration and enable you to face your day feeling calm and confident with an uncluttered mind.

Here are some helpful guided meditations to get you started:

4) A healthy breakfast is vital to starting your day well, nutritious food is the key to being happy and will give you enough energy to last throughout the entire morning. A green smoothie is ideal for providing you with your healthy dose of fruit and veggies. My favorite at the moment is avocado, blueberries, spinach, cucumber and cinnamon. I also enjoy porridge oats with chia seeds, blueberries and banana, with a cup of green tea.

5) Surprisingly, it is good and also important to your well-being to wake up early, and to wake up at the same time each day... yes, even on weekends.

Benefits of rising early:
- No rushing: time to do your morning routine and feel good, less stressed
- Quiet: Peacefulness
- You have more time to make and enjoy a healthy breakfast, instead of rushing a cup of coffee and scoffing something sugary on the way to work
- Productivity: Waking up earlier allows for more time in the day to get things done and set goals

I used to be terrible in the morning, lazy and grumpy. Now I enjoy waking up at 7am to begin my daily routine and feel good. You can change, and you will feel 1,000,000 times better for it.
