Why You Should Drink More Tea

I am perhaps a little over enthusiastic when it comes to the subject of tea. I get ridiculously excited when browsing the tea aisle at the supermarket, way more than I should. My cupboard stock ranges from White, to Green, to Peppermint, to Chamomile, and Lavender, and so on. But the benefits on your mind and body from drinking tea can actually be huge.

Green tea is proven to increase your metabolism, intensifying the level of fat oxidation and the rate at which your body turns food into calories. This can increase weight loss, if paired with eating a healthy diet (obviously). It is also said to help fight diabetes, heart disease, cholesterol, depression and even alzheimers.

White tea is the least processed tea and has a very high level of antioxidants which protect the body from damage by free radicals. Free radicals damage your DNA and accelerate aging, and they come from things like cigarettes, whenever the body is exposed to the sun, X-Rays, as well as exhaust and industrial fumes. Other benefits include stronger bones, healthy skin, healthy teeth and gums, and it has been suggested that drinking white tea can even reduce stress.

Chamomile tea is a daisy-like herb renowned for its healing properties in folk and traditional medicine. This tea eases insomnia, boosts your immune system and even eases menstrual cramps.

Peppermint tea is recommend by herbalists and natural therapists for relief from a variety of disorders. These include headaches, sinus problems, stomach upsets, menstrual cramps. The active ingredient in peppermint, menthol, has an anti-spasmodic effect which relaxes the muscles and explains why it relieves upset stomachs so quickly. It is known for being particularly helpful in reducing the symptoms of IBS.

Jasmine tea (possibly my favorite) is a beautiful, delicate floral tea. It's benefits include weight loss and is said to calm your nerves. The jasmine essential oil is believed to have a tranquilizing effect and just the smell of jasmine acts as a mild sedative.

Other teas I highly recommend are White Tea with Vanilla by Clipper (it tastes like white chocolate), and the LOVE tea by Pukka.

Now go and put the kettle on, sit back and relax ♥️
